A Left-Right Alliance?

With Obama seemingly selling out to the neoconservatives with appointments like Clinton and Emanuel as his foreign policy team, and with Catholics abandoning the war mongering of the Repulican party in the 2008 election, perhaps it is time for two isolated people on the dance floor to consider an alliance: the radical left and the isolationist right. Here would be the terms of the deal, the radical left could give up its militancy with respect to abortion, gay marriage and stem cell research. The right could give up its anti-environmentalism, libertarian economic tendencies and hostility to immigration. Each side will compromise and the two could "unite" as a powerful de facto opposition alliance to the current center-right political compromise.

With the economy falling, this might all take care of itself.
